Online COVID-19 Challenge Ideathon

Coronavirus disease, popularly called COVID-19, is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments. As on March 25, 2020 at 1 PM IST, there have been 422,829 confirmed cases and 18,909 deaths globally, spread across 186 countries/areas/territories. India has so far reported 562 confirmed cases and 9 death (WHO).

Government of India is taking all necessary steps to ensure that the country is well prepared to face the challenges and threats posed by the growing pandemic of  COVID 19 – the Corona Virus. India, so far has been able to contain the spread of  the virus and the appeal of Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi  for one day Janata Curfew has also received massive public support and mentally  prepared the public for 21 Days Lockdown in the country to deal with this present  unprecedented challenge. The most important factor in preventing the spread of the virus locally is to empower the citizens with the right information and taking precautions as per the advisories being issued by Ministry of Health Family Welfare, Government of India from time to time. Public awareness and adoption of preventive measures are crucial for the most populated State of Uttar Pradesh. With the proactive leadership of Honourable Chief Minister, Shri Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh, so far has been able to restrict the spread of the virus. 

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow (AKTU) is making every  possible effort to support the initiatives of Government of India and State  Government of Uttar Pradesh. AKTU has taken a number of initiatives to bring awareness among students, faculty and employees of the University in fight against COVID 19 and to deal with the unprecedented challenges posed by COVID 19 through training of faculty for online teaching from home, online teaching to students at home, through various circulars/advisory/guidelines to maintain social distancing, preventive measures, sanitising University/ Institutes campus (s) offices, laboratories, hostels, residential areas and residential accommodations, developing informative expert interview videos for awareness, providing procedures for making Mask, Hand sanitizer and Room air freshener through in house development of videos and its dissemination through social media. AKTU is playing an active role in the mission against Coronavirus. 

As COVID-19 has now become a public health emergency, therefore, Dr APJ Abdul  Kalam Technical University, Lucknow (AKTU) in collaboration with National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) Lucknow is organizing Online COVID-19 Challenge Ideathon. The students of AKTU are encouraged to share innovative Ideas to develop innovative solutions to the problems posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in order to join the hands of Government of India and State Government of Uttar Pradesh to help the society in this unprecedented situation. May be with some delay, we are beginning to marshal our counter attack against the coronavirus. In times of crisis, speed is crucial, and  the sooner we know more and take action, the better for all of us. 

This would be weekly challenge, whereby, the new set of challenges shall be posted every week. Three best ideas would be awarded and acknowledged.

Ideas are invited in the following areas for:

Developing suitable solutions for prevention and control of COVID 19 using Internet of Things (IoT), Mobile Apps, Meta-analysis and computational Biology.

Developing suitable financial framework/solutions in light of COVID-19 in planning to meet the future challenges at all levels (including individual level, family level, state level, and national level etc.)

Developing suitable procedures to overcome COVID-19 related stigma in resuming normal life activities in future including students resuming their studies at Institutes.

Developing suitable solutions to maintain the improved climate and environmental conditions that have resulted due to lockdown in light of COVID-19.

Developing suitable solutions to societal issues caused due to the COVID-19 pandemic (For example- domestic violence, religious stigma, loneliness etc.).

Developing suitable solutions to help proper treatment of patients with cancer, diabetes, etc during COVID-19 crisis.
